Introduction

Designation No.: Historic Site No. 191
Date of Designation: February 28, 1970
The tomb of King Gongyang of Goryeo and his wife, Royal Consort Sunbi No, was constructed in 1394 (the third year of King Taejo's reign) on a large field. The tomb's surrounding stone objects, such as tombstones, headstones, stone lanterns, and a stone tiger, are simple in style and technique, demonstrating the traditional characteristics of the royal tombs of Goryeo. In front of the royal tomb, the tale of King Gongyang is inscribed. In 1392, when the Goryeo royal family's fortunes were deteriorating, a man was pursued by soldiers at the foot of Gyeondalsan Mountain. This is the last image of King Gongyang, who repeatedly proclaimed, “I don't want to be king,” but ended up becoming king and experiencing misfortune. The situation at that time was chaotic. At that time, a new generation of nobles, including Lee Seong-gye (King Taejo), purged the ruling class by launching a reverse revolution to establish a new country, claiming that the nation's good fortune had run out. At this time, there was a monk who immediately recognized King Gongyang who was being chased and brought him food. It is said that the region was later named Siksa-dong because of this.
