Introduction

Designation No.: National Historic Site No. 144
Date of Designation: February 2, 1965
Byeokjegwan Guesthouse Site is where the representative inn of the Joseon Dynasty, Byeokjegwan Guesthouse, is located.
It was a luxury guesthouse in Joseon, visited by the 21st king of Joseon, Yeongjo, Hwang Hee Jeongseung, and even Chinese envoys.
Byeokjegwan Guesthouse is said to have played a significant role in China-Joseon diplomacy at the time due to its location on the route between China and Joseon.
It was customary for Chinese envoys to spend a day here prior to entering Hanyang, and Korean envoys to China did the same.
Byeokjegwan Guesthouse was originally constructed 3 kilometers west of its current location, but it was relocated to its current site in 1625 after the Goyang-gun Office was damaged during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592.
Going through many ups and downs, it is difficult to find traces of the past, as only a few of the stones that supported the building's pillars remain.
Nonetheless, information boards have been installed so that you can imagine what the Byeokjegwan Guesthouse looked like in the past. You can also view photographs of its former appearance, making it feel closer.
In addition, through precise excavation by Goyang City in 2021, previously unidentified remnants of fences and annexes were uncovered.
