Tomb of Grand Prince Seongnyeong
  • Address San 69-1, Daeja-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do

Introduction

Grand Prince Seongnyeong was the fourth son of King Taejong of the Joseon Dynasty and the younger brother of Grand Prince Yangnyeong and Grand Prince Chungnyeong (King Sejong the Great).
In 1414, he became the grand prince, and his father favored him from a young age due to his dignity and intelligence.
However, he contracted measles and died at the age of 14.
It is said that King Taejong was profoundly distressed by this and personally constructed an ancestral rite and Daeja Hermitage adjacent to the tomb to pray for the great king's repose.
The tomb of Grand Prince Seongnyeong is located at the base of Daejasan Mountain. It has three layers of foundation stone and is surrounded by protective stones.
Numerous stone structures and a distinctive composition style make it an excellent resource for studying tombstones from the Joseon Dynasty.
You can view the Daeja-dong landscape, including Daejacheon Stream and Geonjasan Mountain, from this location.
