Introduction

Haengju Catholic Church, one of the holy sites of Catholicism in Korea, is the oldest hanok church in Goyang which was built after Myeongdong Cathedral and Yakhyeon Catholic Church in Seoul and northern Gyeonggi Province. It was originally constructed in 1910, relocated to its present location in 1928, and recently expanded. The main entrance features a half-hipped roof, while the altar side features a gable roof. The current Haengju Catholic Church was renovated in 2015 by referring to photographs taken in the 1950s. The hanok cathedral is kept clean while maintaining its original form. The interior of a hanok has a unique, cozy atmosphere. It is not a particularly large space, but it is filled with the warmth of wood, giving it a more mysterious feel.
