Introduction

On Daejasan Mountain is the tomb of General Choi Yeong (1316–1388), the greatest general of the late Goryeo Dynasty.
During a time of internal and external chaos, General Choi Yeong attempted to defend the Goryeo royal family while simultaneously defeating foreign enemies.
After subduing Jo Il-shin's rebellion in the first year of King Gongmin's reign in Goryeo (1352), he won each of over 100 battles.
However, he was executed at the age of 73 in 1388 without before he could stop Yi Seong-gye (King Taejo)'s Wihwado retreat.
Later, he was interred next to his father's grave.
General Choi Yeong adhered to his father's teaching to “see stone and gold equally” and lived his life with honor, becoming a role model for many people and an object of shamanic worship, particularly in Goyang.
