Introduction

Designation No.: Cultural Property No. 71
Date of Designation: April 30, 1986
Haengjuseowon Confucian Academy is about 400 meters west of Haengjusanseong Fortress and in the direction of the Hangang River from the fortress's main gate. During the reign of King Heonjong of the late Joseon Dynasty, the king lamented that there was no structure for General Kwon Yul's ancestral rites. As a result, he had a shrine constructed in 1841 and named it Gigongsa, which was the origin of Haengjuseowon Confucian Academy. After that, a separate shrine was constructed for General Kwon Yul's ancestral rites. This place served as an academy responsible for educating younger students. Recently, the site of an 18-meter-wide and 20-meter-long fence was restored. On the rear of the yard, the former location of the shrine remains on a slightly elevated site. In the building site, a rectangular stone masonry of 8.4m on the front and 6.5m on the side remains beneath the foundation stone. Below the masonry remains a structure that served as a lecture hall.
