Monument Dedicated to Philippine Armed Forces in the Korean War
  • Address 5, Daeyang-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do

Introduction

In 1950, during the illegal surprise invasion of the South by communist North Korean forces, the Philippine army, which entered the war to help the South on September 19, made great achievements. This monument was erected by the Ministry of National Defense in October 1974 to honor the 1,496 Filipino soldiers who fought valiantly for the safety and liberty of Korea and to convey the significance of their sacrifice to their descendants. The figures and facial expressions of 50 people carved into the reliefs represent the Korean people who have risen from despondency and frustration in pursuit of freedom and peace, while the reliefs on the front of the pagoda body represent the distinctive folk culture of the Philippines. Gongneungcheon and Daejacheon Streams flow around the monument, and if you walk about 2 kilometers, you can see both the tomb of Grand Prince Seongnyeong and the tomb of General Choe Yeong, allowing you to take a historical tour.
