A new field - Saedeul

Saedeul is a creative art space in Sinpyeong opened in 2022 by renovating the old military barracks in Sinpyeong. The name Saedeul is a short for ‘saerowundeulpan’, which means a new field in Korean. The old Sinpyeong military barracks were used by the soldiers who stood guard duty at the iron fences along the mouth of the Hangang River against armed spies.

Goyang-si

and the 9th Infantry Division signed the Agreement on the Removal of Hangang River Iron Fences in 2008. In 2018, Goyang-si took over the barracks in the Gimpo Bridge–Ilsan Bridge area after the completion of the withdrawal. Through the renovation, the barracks were transformed into a place where artists can create and visitors can come to appreciate their artworks. Based on the unique history of the place, Saedeul actively supports visual arts projects making the most of the local resources.
