Introduction

Hyanggyo is a local educational institution established by the state. It was in charge of middle and high school education, teaching students how to compose poems, as well as Confucian scriptures and history. The current appearance of Goyanghyanggyo Local Confucian School in Goyang-dong dates to the reign of King Sukjong of the Joseon Dynasty. In 1984, however, Myeongnyundang Hall, Jeonsacheong Hall, and Oesammun Gate were rebuilt after being destroyed during the Korean War. Goyanghyanggyo Local Confucian School is renowned for its preserved cultural heritage and traditional architectural splendor. Beginning with Spiked Red Gate, hanok structures such as Myeongnyundang Hall have harmonious walls, chimneys, and roof tiles. Every year on August 27 of the lunar calendar, a ceremony is held to honor the teachings and knowledge of Confucius and other sages. After slowly appreciating Goyanghyanggyo Local Confucian School, you can proceed to Daejasan Mountain. Using the road adjacent to the wall of Hyanggyo, you can ascend Daejasan Mountain and visit the tomb of General Choe Yeong, which will enrich the experience.
