Introduction

Janghang Wetland, the 24th wetland in Korea to be registered with the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, stretches between Gimpo Bridge and Ilsandaegyo Bridge, along the Hangang River estuary, including Sinpyeong-dong, Janghang-dong, and Beopgot-dong. It is approximately 7.6 kilometers long and 0.6 kilometers wide.
It is the only one of the four major rivers in Korea without a dam in its estuary, creating a brackish water ecosystem where river water and seawater mix.
Since public access has been restricted for so long, it is home to the greatest number of animals and plants among the wetlands of the Hangang River estuary.
Every year, approximately 30,000 water birds, including natural monuments such as white-naped cranes and blackfaced spoonbills as well as 20 endangered species, visit the area.
In addition, there is a tidal channel formed solely by the ebb and flow of the tide, as well as willow trees with a remarkable symbiotic relationship with the crabs.
The second floor of the renovated Janghang-gun barracks is currently used as an observation platform for the Janghang Wetland, from which visitors can view migratory birds and wetlands.
In particular, the willow forest along the Hangang River is an unexplored landscape not commonly found in Korea.
The citizens of Goyang are enviable in that they can enjoy this breathtaking view every time they travel along the Jayu-ro Highway.
