Goyang Gawaji Rice Seed Museum
  • Address 471-10 Wonheung-dong, Deoyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do

Introduction

Goyang Special City was once the center of Hangang River agricultural culture, and it is the location where the first cultivated rice seeds on the Korean peninsula, Goyang Gawaji rice seeds, were excavated.
The discovery of Gawaji rice seeds in 1991 demonstrated that rice cultivation in Korea originated during the Neolithic Era.
The Goyang Gawaji Rice Seed Museum is where the significance of this rice seed was recorded.
The museum has exhibition halls 1 through 3 and an outdoor exhibition hall. The heart of the museum is the Exhibition Hall 1.
It is the Goyang Gawaji Relic Room, a 1/50 scale replica of the 1991 excavation site of Gawaji Village in Daehwa-ri, where Gawaji rice seeds were discovered 5,020 years ago.
Gawaji rice seeds, hand axes, and earthenware from 5,020 years ago and 3,000 years ago are on display among the Gawaji relics.
