Bigyeogjincheonloe (Bomb Shell)

This is the first time bomb in Korea, invented by Lee Jang-son, a weaponry expert during the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon. It was named as such because “the sound of it exploding shook the heavens and the earth.” Since it did not explode immediately after ignition but after a certain amount of time, it was called the “ghost bomb” by the Japanese troops. When it exploded, the iron bullet was broken into two or three pieces, sending the iron shards inside flying in all directions, making it a highly lethal weapon.
